How to cancel and reschedule with SherryB Psychology

Clients must be referred by their GP under a Mental Health Care Plan or by their Psychiatrist

Medicare Rebate

Access to medicare rebate

A Mental Health Treatment Plan gives you access to a Medicare rebate for 6 sessions of psychological therapy. After the 6th session you can return to the person who referred you (your GP, pediatrician, or psychiatrist) to assess your progress. They can then provide an additional MHCP referral for 4 sessions of psychological therapy if needed.

This allows you to access 10 sessions of psychological therapy in the calendar year.

You are required to pay the full fee of the appointment and are then refunded a partial rebate through Medicare. Your out-of-pocket expense is the difference between the Psychologist fee and Medicare rebate.

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) suggests fees for different psychology session types and lengths. The current recommended fee is $310 for a standard 50-minute consultation. From January 1 2026 50 min consultation fees are $245. SherryB is also applying concession rates to eligible clients.

If you require further information please speak to SherryB who will be more than happy to answer any questions.

Please note: additional fees may be associated with the writing of support letters and reports that are required for agencies other than your General Practitioner.
Clients using NDIS fees are outlined in the Service Agreement signed at the start of therapy.

Please give the office a call to discuss your referral and we can provide you with a fee structure tailored to your situation.

Private Health Cover

Accessing Private Health Rebate

SherryB Psychology provides high quality support for children, adolescents and adults with sessions that run for 50 minutes. Did you know you do not need a referral to see a psychologist? Many clients present privately with no referral from a GP or medical professional. There is no limit to the number of sessions you may have. We do provide a receipt for treatment after all of our sessions. With this, you may be able to claim a rebate for therapy under 'Extras' cover if you have private health insurance.

You are encouraged to contact your insurer directly regarding rebate amount as this varies between health funds and depends on your level of cover.

• Mental Health Care Plans (MHCP)

If you do have a current Mental Health Care Plan referral from your doctor, you can receive a rebate from Medicare, which is a minimum of $98.95 to $124.35 (Nature therapy). We will process your Medicare rebate directly after payment for your session through our onsite facilities. Under a MHCP, you are eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year.

At SherryB Psychology, we will correspond with your referring GP upon treatment commencement, at around your sixth session, and then finally upon your completion of psychological counselling, or your tenth session.

If you possess a MHCP addressed to an alternate practice or Psychologist, you do not need to see your GP to have this changed to see your psychologist. Following an initial appointment, your psychologist will write to your referring doctor to indicate you are now under our care.

• Concessions

Concession card holders or self-funded young people may be eligible for concessions. Please contact SherryB Psychology to determine your eligibility for concessions for a reduced fee service.

• Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

SherryB Psychology provides short-term, confidential Employee Assistance Program support for employees of a range of local schools and organisations. Before booking an appointment, please ensure you are aware of your EAP entitlements as accessed by your Human Resources representative/s.

• Third-Party Funded Sessions / WorkCover Queensland

If you have an approved WorkCover QLD or third-party insurer claim, you may access treatment from our team of psychologists.

• Payment of Sessions

Clients and/or their approved funders are legally responsible for the payment of scheduled sessions.

SherryB will rightfully remove future appointments should any payments be outstanding according to our payment terms. Fees are reviewed periodically. Any changes are passed on to existing clients.

Referrals and Fees

Referral Types

On booking your initial appointment, SherryB Psychology will send out via email or post, some initial paperwork for you to complete and bring along to your first session with you, this will also contain some general information about your appointment and our office contact details. In order to assist in beginning your therapy, please bring with you any referral letters or care plans that are required for your appointment. You will be required to pay your account on the day online electronic claiming is available for easier electronic claiming.
