Neuroaffirming Counselling –
SherryB Psychology

At SherryB Psychology, we celebrate neurodiversity and offer counselling that affirms and supports the unique ways people think, learn, and experience the world. Whether you’re autistic, have ADHD, dyslexia, or another form of neurodivergence, our neuroaffirming approach focuses on strengths, self-understanding, and practical strategies without trying to “fix” who you are.

Book your neuroaffirming counselling session today and work with a psychologist who truly understands and values neurodivergent experiences.

Be You

What is Neuroaffirming Counselling?

Neuroaffirming counselling recognises that neurological differences are natural variations in the human brain, not problems to be cured. Instead of focusing on “normalising” behaviour, we work with you to:

  • Understand and embrace your strengths

  • Identify and reduce barriers in your environment

  • Develop strategies that work for your brain

  • Support self-advocacy and self-compassion

This approach is particularly helpful for people who have felt misunderstood, pressured to mask their true selves, or burnt out from trying to meet unrealistic expectations.

Who We Support

Our neuroaffirming counselling is available for:

  • Autistic children, teens, and adults

  • People with ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and other learning differences

  • Those seeking post-diagnosis support after an ADHD or ASD assessment

  • Parents and carers of neurodivergent children

  • Anyone wanting to better understand their own neurodivergence

How We Work Together

Our sessions provide a safe, validating space where you can share your experiences without judgment. Together, we may:

  • Explore your sensory, communication, and processing preferences

  • Build emotional regulation skills tailored to your needs

  • Develop executive functioning strategies (organisation, planning, focus)

  • Create social scripts and confidence-building tools

  • Support wellbeing through self-care, boundaries, and identity affirmation

We use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and strength-based coaching, adapting each to be sensory- and processing-friendly.

Why Choose a Neuroaffirming Approach?

  • Respect for Identity – We value and support who you are, without expecting you to change core aspects of yourself.

  • Strengths-Based – We focus on what you do well, not just the challenges you face.

  • Practical Strategies – We help you create real-world solutions that work for your lifestyle and brain type.

  • Inclusive & Understanding – Sessions are free from judgment, stigma, and outdated stereotypes.
